Story . . .
I was born to create. My hands are most comfortable while working to make something beautiful. Humu was born out of this need within me to always be making. It started small—as a little Etsy shop where I sold a few gift tags and tees. But it's evolved into a collection that is an outward, artful expression of my beliefs.
I am endlessly grateful that pieces of this collection are now sold to individuals and wholesale shops all over the world. It’s like a little piece of my heart scattered across the globe, connecting me to the new owners.
Humu in Hawaiian means to sew, stitch, or bind. That's where I'm from and that's what I do. The indigenous culture in Hawai’i is very concerned with our connection to nature, the land, and one another. I bring those intentions to every piece that I design. I like to think there are pieces of Hawai’i reflected in my creations: the patterns and the foliage are nods to Maui, my home, a place that never ceases to inspire me.
With every cut of cloth, every stitch and print, I think about where this piece will end up and who might find joy in it. It makes me so indescribably happy that my creations end up on a wall or in a kitchen or on someone's desk. If I can be just a small part of making your life more beautiful, I've done my job.
I have a wonderful husband, Francisco who helps me with the heavy lifting around here. He is so invested in this work and has helped me pursue this from the very beginning. Humu would neither exist or thrive without him.
Three years ago, we added another little helper to the family: our beautiful daughter Sienna. She loves to "help" me work. I love watching her creativity take shape and that she gets to see her mama follow her passion. Let's not forget our four-legged daughter Koali. She completes the Humu team by adding 100% cuteness.
